I found these smoky blue vintage flower beads months ago and immediately fell in love with their vintage blue color. When they arrived, though, they were much larger than I expected—11 mm flowers that felt too bold for the delicate earrings I usually create. Well… now what? They seemed too large to dangle gracefully, and I even considered turning them into a necklace or hair pins instead.
So they sat in my studio, waiting, for almost half a year!
One afternoon, I decided to cluster the flowers closely together rather than spacing them apart. I paired them with muted gray, golden, and deep blue gemstones to complement the weathered blue petals. To my surprise, they transformed into one of the most unique designs I’ve ever made.
When I shared them with a few friends, several said they reminded them of butterfly wings and once they mentioned it, I couldn’t unsee it. Worn together, they seem to flutter softly with every movement.
